River Liffey runs straight through Dublin, doing wonders for the cityscape.

It's not too bad these days, contributing a lot to the water consumption of Dublin, but literature has some dubious references to it, like "No man who has faced the Liffey can be appalled by the dirt of another river." I like the mix of insult and admiration it conveys.

 

Gjennom Dublin renner elva Liffey, og den gjør underverker for bylandskapet.

Nå om dagen sørger elva for mye av Dublins vannforbruk, men den har hatt et litt tvilsomt rykte på seg i tidligere tider. Noen har for eksempel hevdet at etter å ha sett Liffey skal det ikke være mulig å bli forskrekket av skitten i noen annen elv. Artig miks av fornærmelse og beundring der, altså.
