When The Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra is at its peak in August, this is a typical view on the border between Tanzania and Kenya. Hundreds of thousands of northbound animals stand around, chewing on fresh grass and leaves. This wall of walking meat follows the rain wherever it falls, to the great pleasure of various predators along the route. During the eight hundred kilometer march from Tanzania to Masaai Mara, a quarter of a million wildebeest die, of hunger, thirst and exhaustion, but chiefly of lion and crocodile.
