The waterholes near the camps are artificially light throughout the night, so you can sit as long as you want and see if anything exciting shows up. Three or four hours after sunset, most of the animals will have gone silent in the night, hiding from predators by staying still. But especially those first two hours of darkness are likely to bring much to see, as the big animals that have been resting throughout the day are moving and hunting.
