If you get off the boat from Hong Kong, take a walk around and through the many casinos you can see from the port and then go back to Hong Kong again, you have only barely scratched the surface of the gambling world.

While the city centre of Macau is sort of mad, the real craziness is found a few kilometres further south, on the Cotai Strip. On a small piece of reclaimed land between the previous islands of Coloane and Taipa, 5 or 6 of the 10 largest and most costly casinos in the world are nicely lined up. And more are being built.

You'll find a miniature New York, Paris and Venice side by side here. The density of luxury shopping is beyond anything anywhere. Most of it has been copied from Las Vegas, except something went wrong in the process. The copies turned out 3-4 times as large as the originals.

 

Hvis du går av båten, tar deg en runde på de svære kasinoene du ser fra havna, og så reiser tilbake til Hong Kong igjen, da har du gått glipp av det meste i Macau.
