De femten moaiene på Tongariki står og stirrer vestover, mot fjellveggen de ble hugget ut av, og mot hjemmet til deres skapere, Polynesia langt, langt borte i vest et sted.

Man kan skjønne at de største moaiene på øya har endt opp nettopp her, og i så stort antall. Dette er nærmeste kyststripe fra steinbruddet, og det er en lett og fin helning nedover hele veien.

The fifteen moai of Ahu Tongariki stand together, staring towards the quarry where they were made, and towards the home of their creators, Polynesia, somewhere far, far away to the west.

It makes a lot of sense that this is where the largest moai on the island, and so many of them, are located. It's the shortest distance possible from the quarry to the seashore, and the whole distance between them is a nicely sloped downhill stretch.
