Vanse is the most fanatically American community in Norway. Many from this town emigrated in the mid-1900s to find work, and then returned to Norway in the 1970s and 1980s when the economy here boomed. They took a lot of the American culture with them, and that's why there's a New York subway station in the town centre, and a large department store selling all kinds of Made in USA goods. It's quite fascinating, really.		Vanse er et av de rareste stedene jeg vet om. Mange flyttet herfra til Amerika for å jobbe tidlig og midt på 1900-tallet, og så kom de flyttende hjem igjen da oljen ble funnet på 1970- og 1980-tallet. Med seg tok de amerikansk kultur, og det gjør at vi nå finner en metrostasjon fra New York på torget i Vanse, rett ved siden av en ordentlig "diner" og en stor butikk som selger alt mulig av amerikanske varer. Rare greier, altså.
