Moaiene i steinbruddet står støtt, hovedsakelig plantet i overskuddsmaterialet fra uthuggingen. Og sånn har de stått hele tiden, i motsetning til moaiene som faktisk ble satt opp på ahu rundtom på øya. Alle de andre ble nemlig veltet og skadet under kriger og stridigheter i perioden da det ble knapt med ressurser for innbyggerne på øya.		The moai in the quarry at Rano Raraku have been standing like this since they were made, buried in spoil from the production of these and other statues. All the moai that were transported to ahu sites around the island, on the other hand, were pulled over and damaged during wars, possibly caused by a lack of resources on the island.
